Will,

We have a 2002 Sequoia with holes in the frame. When my mechanic told my wife what they found, he said it wasn't safe to be on the road. We did get a service notice regarding corrosion, they painted the frame and gave it back to us. The paint didn't last a season and then my mechanic gave me the bad news. I am interested in joining a law suit against Toyota. Please post an update to your claim so I know how to follow up or contact you.

yes i have a 2002 Sequoia too and years back they painted some kind of rust protection i guess what a joke that was and all that did was to lock the moisture in so it would rust faster.. So if you or anyone got anything resolve was them or lawyers let me know, 09/12/21 Guess i way out of reach to have fix. Funny i have a 1963 dodge pickup and drove under same condition and not rotten out.

I've got a 2003 Sequoia that I just found out has a rusted frame. I bought it from a dealership used a few years ago, so they must have known about the recall and just didn't say anything. I'm wondering if I would have more success suing them?

Okay Folks....I am going to do it. Take Toyota to small claims court for not notifying me of the LSC for my 2001 Sequoia. I have tried to resolve this issue with Toyota via their customer service staff by submitting several cases over the past 12 months. After being told the 7/31/2014 deadline had passed, and there was nothing more they were willing to do, I have few other options. To rub salt into the wound, while at my local Toyota dealership for parts (for another Toyota - I have owned 12) I was discussing my experiences with a dealership Service Center employee. He did not understand why I was told that Toyota would not do anything. He said they currently had two (2) frames in the dealership to repair two vehicles under the campaign. That was 20+ months AFTER the campaign officially ended. When I asked why they could not help me, he simply said "I must not have gone far enough up the food chain" to get action. That was the push I needed to try to resolve this via legal action. I filed my small claim case that same day.

Now that I have a court date scheduled, I would like to have one or two names of other owners who also did not get a notice of the LSC. I see Miriam Reilly added her complete name above. Would any others be willing to do the same? I promise it will only be used to add credibility to my claim, that others have experienced the same. Even some that purchased the vehicles new (which I did not). BTW....I also had a 2001 Tacoma and DID receive the notices for that vehicle....just not the Sequoia.

It seems Toyota will admit that there are problems with the frame, but believes I have no case because they have some evidence that they "mailed" the notice letters and a statute of limitations is in place. They don't seem to care if "we" ever received the letters, just that they mailed them. Sounds a lot like the "check is in the mail" to me.

Wish me luck. We all may benefit if I win. Any names that could help the cause will be appreciated.

Thanks
Will Hager
I was never notified of this issue. Recently my 2002 Sequoia had the rear crossmember so rotted out that I had to spend $1200 at a welding shop while on vacation 100 miles from home, to replace it. Not a happy camper right now.

I also was never notified about this issue. Now my bracket on the frame that holds the lower control arm has rusted off. Have you gotten any good news?

So I just had the pleasure of Toyota Customer service basically telling me where to go. I did get the notice in 2014 and had brought my 2002 Sequoia in . All they did was paint the frame which they claimed was going to fix the issue. Here I am 8 years later and my truck, which I do not use everyday it is a 3rd car in the home, will not pass inspection because the frame is rusted and cracked. I refuse to pay for the repair when they claimed to have fixed this issue in June of 2014. And to top it all off they claim that my mileage is over the warranty/recall standards too, I have 168192 miles on a 20 year old car really ? Has anyone had any luck ?

Kathy, I am sorry to hear that this has happened to you. The only course of action now is to open a case with Toyota and see if they will help out on this repair. It looks like this Limited Service Campaign ended July 31, 2014. I do know that they are becoming really stringent on offering help past the dates set for a LSC to end but a simple phone call doesn't hurt. You can call Toyota here at 1-800-331-4331
I have a sequoia frame is a total disaster afraid to drive it. Bought used from an individual can't drive it for safety reasons not my fault Toyota isn't standing by there vehicles should not be an expectation on the frame it's dangerous and if accident happens Toyota should be held responsible.
Hi there,
So it was just announced that Toyota is settling with Tacoma, Tundra and Sequoia owners to the tune of $15k! Unfortunately, Sequoias only as far back as 2005---mine is 2004! Do we have any recourse?

I like you have a 2002 sequoia. Love the vehicle. Saw some rusting on the frame called it in awhile ago they said no to the rustproofing. Now it is 2023. Called them again just got call back they said no to rustproof. For me to pay for it the price I'd over $2000. A new frame from carid is 6000.
Wondering if it is worth the cost and how long it lasts...
How did lawsuits work out. Never notified.

Same here. 2003 sequoia limited in great condition, except for frame rusting. My power steering fluid completely drained out about 7 months ago and it was parked in our driveway until 3 months ago when my husband replaced the rack and pinion. Got it aligned and it was ok until a few weeks ago. Evertime I turn I can hear creaking and all kinds of other noises. It's our only vehicle at the moment and I'm so worried after reading this forum that I will get into a bad accident if it breaks while driving with my kids in the car. I could just cry. Thanks for nothing toyota. If anyone get an update on the situation my phone number is 4436844953. Thanks guys! Brianna
