2007-2011 Toyota Camry and Camry Hybrid Sun Visor Warranty Extension ZTT

My driver's side sun visor started drooping & came off 18 days past the 7 year warranty extension period. I contacted my local dealer & was told to contact Toyota customer care center. I contacted them & was told that they would not replace the visor as it was past the warranty extension. Said they wouldn't do it even if it was 1 day past the extension. All the cars I've owned have been Camrys. But there have been so many recalls & other issues with the 2009 model I won't be buying another Toyota.
I'm sorry to hear that Toyota didn't offer any assistance with this repair.

Just had the driver's side visor 'droop' on me over the last week (2008 camry, so I know it's out of range - no point in asking my service center as they are sticklers for dates.)

I used the link above to write to Toyota Customer Care and will wait to see what they reply with. I do know how to fix this issue myself and will do so if need be, but I am actively searching for a new vehicle (going to give this one to my daughter) and the Camry was at the top of my list.

If they won't stand by this issue I will move on to one of my other non-Toyota top choices.

Recently read threads regarding sun visor issues. I began having the same problem a week ago and my dashboard was beginning to 'melt'. Took my '07 Camry to dealer. They said the sun visor warranty ran out 7 years after first day of use... brand new! Unfortunately, I've had my used but otherwise good condition Camry for two years now. Quoted me an out-of-pocket cost of over $180 for ONE visor because it has a vanity mirror. I told agent that both visors should be replaced but I wasn't paying that for ONE visor. Dashboard will be replaced, though, so all is not lost. Checked Amazon and same visor with mirror is under $60! Will have both visors replaced for less than the price of ONE! Incredible!

I'm yet another 2011 Toyota Camry owner who discovered well after the fact that there's a huge problem with the sun visors installed within my vehicle. I paid to have the driver's side visor replaced myself since it's well out of warranty. About a month afterward, the passenger side failed which led me to believe this was a bigger issue. Subsequent research confirmed that this is more than an annoyance of one or two other owners., however, Toyota isn't considering a recall for the systemic failure. I found this site and dutifully reviewed the Applicable VIN Ranges only to find my vehicle was NOT covered by the enhancement for sun visor assemblies. The dealership gladly replaced the passenger visor and once again, I paid for it. I just conferred with a customer service rep and was informed that my only option is to wait and "hope" that Toyota considers an extension of the policy to cover my VIN. Meanwhile, the seven year limit continues to tick away and I'm stuck with about $280 for a car part that I've NEVER had a problem with in any other vehicle I've owned over the years. I am not pleased and would like to warn others in my situation that they might well be in for the same disappointment.

The Drivers Side sun visor on my 2011 Camry has just failed exactly like described in Toyota's Camry Sun Visor Warranty Extension ZTT. But, terms of their Warranty Extension cover only two (2) VINs for 2011. There are lots of 2007 - 2010 Camrys covered, but only two 2011's. Any thoughts??

I had this happen to me earlier this month. The sun visor suddenly drooped down on the driver side and couldn't be put back into place. I had to remove it for safety and rely on my shades.

Mine is a 2008 Camry, bought it less than 4 years ago.
I've just submitted a email to Toyota Customer Service. Hopefully they have answers whether or not they'll replace it. This is really stupid, I never gotten any notification at all. I would've been in the dark if it wasn't for this thread.

The most likely cause is that they were made by a different manufacturer. Toyota does not actually make parts for their vehicles, the have Tier One suppliers that are contracted to do this.

What is a Tier One Suppler?

I suspect that the design was flawed or the supplier made a manufacturing change (made it cheaper) that Toyota wasn't aware of but really we don't know. If you or other Toyota Owners have a concern that isn't covered in this program then you can contact Toyota here... 1-800-331-4331 or you can file a complaint with NHTSA here... (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and this will help get the ball rolling as well as help other Toyota Owners.

My 2009 Toyota Camry has the same sunvisor issue as all the other posts. Besides contacting Toyota customer care I also contacted the national transportatio safety administration to file a complaint. As pointed out by many others before, this is a safety issue and not a warranty issue as Toyota is claiming or supporting. By contacting the NHTSA I am hoping they will see the safety concerns we have.
I made a temporary fix by attaching a bungee cord from the visor to the handle over the drivers door. That only helps keeping it out of my way but I still can't use it for what it is meant for.

Background

Toyota has received a number of reports regarding sun visors in certain 2007 to 2011 model year Camry and Camry Hybrid vehicles. In these cases, the sun visor may slowly rotate downward. In a limited number of cases, the sun visor may become detached.

Applicability

The Sun Visor Assembly and Sun Visor Bracket are covered by Toyota’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty for 3 years or 36,000 miles (whichever occurs first). However, Toyota is announcing a Customer Support Program (CSP) to cover the replacement of the Sun Visor Assembly and/or Sun Visor Bracket for 7 years from the date-of-first-use (regardless of mileage) for the condition described above.

If a customer has previously paid for the repair or replacement of the Sun Visor Assembly and/or Sun Visor Bracket to address the condition described above, please have them mail a copy of the repair order, proof-of-payment, and proof-ofownership to the following address for reimbursement consideration:

Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.
Customer Experience Center, WC10
19001 South Western Avenue
Torrance, CA 90509
The customer name, address, and telephone number(s) should be included in the request. The customer should allow 4-6 weeks for processing.

I have a 2009 Camry that I purchased in 2008 new. Just this past week my sun visor fell down while I was driving down the interstate. I remembered receiving a letter in the mail from Toyota about the sun visor problem, but at the time I wasn't having any problems with mine. I called my local dealership today and was told that the warranty enhancement was only good for 7 years and mine had been a few months over that. I do not think that a safety issue should have a time limit. I now know that I will be bringing my vehicle in for all warranty enhancement or recall's immediately and having them done whether I'm having the problem or not! I have an issue with the fact that you know that there is a problem with the visor and yet you place a time limit on it. I have owned cars for over 30 years, and have "never" had a visor fall down on me! That is not normal wear and tear. You know there is a problem (safety issue) and you should fix it!

I had the same thing happen to me. I am a few months outside of the 7 years and they said they wouldn't replace it. This is a safety issue and I won't buy another Toyota either. This car has been a real lemon! From the gas pedal sticking, to the dashboard melting, to my oil consumption test failing.....Lemon!!

Has there been a recall for Toyota Venza? We have a 2012 and have the same problem with sun visor. Started last week being loose and this morning the visor came completely off! Took to dealership & they said they hadn't heard of any recall for the Venza just on the Camry. Ordered one but out of stock. This is a real safety issue!

I don't recall one being open on the Venza model but if you want to help other Venza Owners you should contact Toyota to let them know and also file a complaint with NHTSA.

Nikki, I couldn't agree more. You can help other Toyota Owners by filling out a complaint form with NHTSA and letting them know what is happening and how you feel. Here is a link to the form. Please just take a second to do this and maybe this concern will be turned into a Recall rather than just a warranty extension.

That's because this is not a recall. It was a warranty extension. Here is the difference...
Toyota called it a recall. All of these comments are interesting, however, the falling visor is not just an annoyance, it is a safety issue. My visor had to be replaced by the original owner, in 2010, and is flopping again. My wife and I keep bumping our heads against it while driving. The defective visor is a safety issue and the company calls it an extended warranty issue. Great public relations move!

I haven't seen anywhere that Toyota has called this a Recall. See here....

I couldn't agree more. Please take the time to report your concerns to NHTSA and maybe a Recall will be issued if they receive enough consumer reports.

My 2011 Camry falls outside the vin range, but the exact same problem is apparent. Passenger side visor is just hanging there and the drivers side fell off completely. Called Toyota Headquarters and they're not willing to do anything. I am totally unimpressed with Toyota's backing of their product. This is obviously an issue they acknowledged. I don't care what they claim the vin range is cause it's still a problem outside of what they are taking responsibility for. A simple fix would have sufficed. Instead this warrants me not buying another Toyota.
