And of course my 2011 Prius just fell in to this problem. Why a 10 year limitation? I get the mileage part. I thought I read somewhere about a lawsuit on this in Texas. (And now I can't find the link.) Gonna cost me.
Same boat here, my 2011 just had this issue pop up. I'm still going to call and push the issue, because it's absurd that a 10-year or mileage-cap be placed on this issue.

Right here too. Mine started having the exact same problem, and with c1391 code. Called corporate to inform them that they made a mistake on how long they offered the repair warranty, that they need to extend it because theres vehicles that are still having this happen to this day. Basically, in the end, i was told too bad, id have to pay for the repair. After really digging thru all this, this is without any doubt, toyota manipulated the warranty to MAKE SURE they wont have to cover the repairs. Its clear as day. Thats exactly what they've managed to pull off. Toyota is fully aware that it managed to word the warranty in just a way to minimize its obligation to cover this particular problem. I wish i had the resources to be able to force them to admit that publicly. Theres gota be SOMEthing that can be done to hold them accountable in some shape way or form.

I am attempting to find options for retribution as I’m out of date , I bought the 2011 in 2014 from a Toyota dealer and never reviewed any notification from Toyota and was never told about a list. I just started hearing the buzzing every 2-3 minute with a leak in the pump actuator.

Ha, ha. Toyota is a joke. Your website says that the codes “may” be present when there is this problem. I have this problem, my car sounds just like this video and my brakes make honking sounds every time I use the brakes. However, because the codes that “may” appear don’t appear, Toyota will not repair the defective parts. No codes appear but I still have this problem as diagnosed by a Toyota technician.

So, now Toyota would rather risk liability in some accident and loss of a repeat customer in future sales because a code doesn’t appear for their defective part.

The Toyota “help desk” didn’t deny the diagnosis of the defective part, but a causation issue. Causation issue was that the code didn’t appear. They said they were bound by a letter that they said the sent to me in June 2019, that had more restrictive language than “may” as found on this webpage; however, they wouldn’t tell me the address where that letter was sent. They asked me to confirm where they sent the letter? I don’t know where you sent it. show. You tell me!

You’d think they’d learn after the airbag issue. Now I am looking at a $2,100 repair on a 6k car just to keep it road worthy. Toyota is pennywise and pound foolish. Congratulations, I bought my last new car with you December 2020. Off to the NHTSA website with my complaint.

My 2011 Prius had the C1391 failure..... The dash lights came on on 9/2/21... 2 days after the coverage window expired on the customer service bulletin ZJB. I've dealt with Toyota corporate for over a week, 10+ phone calls, all for them to tell me, "sorry, we manufactured a defective part, we refused to do a recall due to the cost, your problem now buddy"... in so many words. :) Now i need to pay $3000 for a defective part that Toyota knows about, for a car that worth about 8k... Always considered my self a ride or die Toyota person, i had a ton of brand loyalty... Ill be looking at other SUV's instead of the 4 Runner i was looking into buying. Also, i had a complete top end smog system failure on my Sequoia at 101,000 miles.. not covered by Toyota.. Im re-thinking this brad loyalty thing...
Agreed , same here

I just called Toyota as this issue happened to my 2013. It was covered and Toyota had extended this warranty for primary coverage for November 28,2022 so you actually will qualify if you do it asap. Just took my car in and got fixed for free today

Call Toyota customer service at 800-331-4331. There has been a current bulletin covering the 2011 brake booster and pump, through November 30, 2019, regardless of mileage. I dealt with them last week. My Toyota dealer locally was useless, telling me it wasn't covered and it would be $3,300. I had to do the digging and notify them. Now I wait for parts!
2013 Prius started encountering multiple dash light issue 10/03, but only intermittently (sometimes all 4 lights, sometimes none; soft braking and no regen when illuminated). took 'er in for a diagnostic 10/15 and was quoted $3970 parts and labor to replace pump assembly (I'm guessing brake actuator and booster: parts 04008-11347 04008-11447 and 04006-22147) without any mention of ZJB extended warranty -they did happen to have all parts on hand.
paid the crooks $177 for the diagnostic and continued to drive until dash light illumination was persistent on 11/05, leading to complete brake failure accompanied by persistent warning tone (beeping). fortunately I was pulling into a parking space when this happened and was able to activate the parking brake before coasting into the curb.
refusing to shell out enough scratch to put towards a down payment on another vehicle, I was at a loss and had roughly a month of humble bus rides and Uber hovering in my "frequent apps" list.

12/01/2022 I reluctantly called 1-800-331-4331 while wishing on a star and there was the option of getting the issue covered by ZJB. to my surprise, the original termination time of 08/2021 actually had an EXTENSION to (if I recall correctly) 03/2023! it was mentioned, however, that this only applies if the vehicle is <150K miles... though 12/01 I was clocked at 150489mi, the initial proof of actuator failure was documented 10/15 at 148973mi and customer service arranged a call to my nearest Toyota parts & service. :D

I'm towing my 2013 Prius to said dealer parts & service in the morning and will post progress as it unfolds, fingers crossed.

So I bought a 2011 Prius last year thinking Toyota was a reliable dependable vehicle. I had the brake pump noise from the day I purchased but did not think it was an issue. Since it was my first hybrid I assumed it was normal. Now I all my warning lights are on and Toyota is saying the warranty was only extended to 10 years. I only have 130k miles. How do you brakes fail this soon and apply a year restraint to your warranty. This should be a recall not a warranty extension. Now i am faced with a major life expense that I don't have the money to fix. Also, a friend of mine has the same vehicle and has owned it for years and was never even informed of the extension of warranty. Now he is dealing with the same issue at almost the same exact mileage. I love getting 45mpg but what's the true cost of it if you don't fix your defective parts.

Please email any response to rickeybianculli@yahoo.com

NO, it does not. My 2012 Prius v brakes failed as described in Customer Support Program ZJB, but the Booster part numbers are different for Prius v. I did get some 'relief' from Toyota but still had to spend big bucks.
2012 proud v are covered. Mine was replaced & 100% covered by customer courtesy. Don't ask for a warranty. 150k or 10 yrs whichever comes first. Dud you go in after this expired? If not, I'd argue w the dealer who repaired, as they made a mistake

Did anything ever come from this? Did they eventually cover the charge of a new brake system?

I've had this problem start in my 2011 about a month ago. Took it to a local shop who topped off the fluid and reset codes. The problem came back last week, and I have the recycling actuator sound. I'm at about 155,000 miles and out of the 10 years. Seems Toyota new what they were doing when the set the 10 years and mileage range as many seem to be experiencing part failure just outside of those parameters. A local shop says they will fix it for $2,000 and change and replace the booster and cylinder. Most frustrating part is, I never received the letter from Toyota when the original "extended warranty" was offered. I am not the first owner, but I would assume they'd be able to contact owners via registered VIN numbers just as they do with recalls? This whole thing is a blemish on Toyota's reputation, in my opinion. I get that parts fail, but this was a known issue that they seemed to try to get around with carefully worded language and date/mileage requirements. Love the Prius, but not loving Toyota at the moment. Will consider other hybrids when the time comes to buy another.

My 2011 Prius had the same problem in December 2023. I had to call Toyota cusomter support. But was told that my car is more than 10 years. So I need to pay for it. A local dealer quoted me $5200 to fix it. But I found another deal who offered $2900 to fix it. I had to ask my lawyer to write a letter to Toyota and threat to sue Toyota over the small claims court. Then Toyota called me and told me that they will provide 100% coverage for the repair.
