Introduction:
Some 2010 – 2021 model year Toyota vehicles may exhibit paint stains after the removal of Rapgard™. The paint stains may appear to be under the clear coat but are usually under wrinkles in the Rapgard™. The wrinkles may trap water and cause the paint to stain from the trapped moisture, especially on horizontal surfaces such as the hood, roof, and trunk. Follow the Repair Procedure in this bulletin to address this condition.

APPLICABLE WARRANTY:
This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date. Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in this bulletin.

Repair Procedure:
1. Confirm the condition exists. AFTER Rapgard™ removal, does the vehicle exhibit paint stains as shown on page 2 of 3?
YES — Continue to step 2.
NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable Repair Manual.

2. Using aluminum foil or a damp cloth, cover ANY plastic and/or rubber parts located near the stain.

3. With an infrared lamp or heat gun, apply heat to the stain for 5 – 10 minutes at 158°F – 176°F (70°C – 80°C).

4. Wait AT LEAST 5 minutes AFTER heat application, then examine the area and determine if the stain has been removed. Does the vehicle still exhibit paint stains?
YES — Repeat steps 3 – 4.
NO — The repair is complete.
