Having same issue and dealer says not covered so I have to pay to replace. Why isn’t this a recall? 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-road. 56K miles.

Same issue here. 2017 Tacoma with 56k. Dealer charged me $125 to tell me it was the 3rd Brake light then said it would be $700 to replace. I told them where to put the $700 and that I will be looking for a survey to fill out

Same issue. Could not figure out where the water was coming from. Started researching and found that it was coming from rear brake light. Toyota Dealer quoted about $600 to fix it. It is a known problem. Toyota wont take ownership of it. I assume we will be getting a class action lawsuit notification at some point. Save your receipts, we may be able to get reimbursed down the road.

Same story with my 2017 Toyota Tacoma. I don't believe I have ever seen a problem so effd up like a football bat and two fries shy of a happy meal. I paid 35 grand for this with my hard earned money. Now I'm getting screwed without getting kissed, better known as coitus. By the same jokers that sold me the truck. Please, if I had wanted to get tickled off and lied to TOYOTA I could have went to a special place uptown and got tickled off and lied to all in the same hour. It would probably feel pretty good too. You have a problem, you know you have a problem. Do us all a big courtesy, pull your head out of your ass and fix it.

Why would an item that is not affected by the amount of mileage you put on a vehicle have such a limited warranty? I've owned my vehicle for 41 months and have 110,000 miles on it. For a vehicle that has such a good reputation, by Toyota saying that the quality of is brake light is only good for 36 months or 36,000 miles is disappointing at best.

I've owned my 2016 since Jan 16 and it just started to leak 2 months ago. You're right, Toyota placing this under the basic 36k, 3 year warranty is crap.

I got a recall notice on my 2016 Tacoma 4x4 TRD. Currently my truck is at the dealership. They had to have a 3rd party cleaner do a deep clean in case of mold. Just got word they are now waiting for parts. Oct 6, 2021.

Update: Just went to dealership, I wanted to inspect for rust before the leak was repaired. What a shock, the interior of my truck was totally gutted. All the seats, console, carpet and all trim moldings were piled in the bed of the truck. The parts are on backorder. No telling how long the repair will take.

I just found my leak. For the longest time I’ve had a leak in the back seat floorboard area of my 2017 Tacoma. I put sealant around the brake light even though I had no wetness in headliner. I pulled everything out of the back area, seats, storage bin, cabin wall liner and found my leak was coming from the passenger cabin to bed vent. It’s obvious once the back of the liner can be examined. Not sure how to fix it just yet. I’ll probably seal it with some sort of spray sealant. For my 2017 this is absolutely the culprit.
