If you get a customer concern that the maintenance light wont reset please check the message on the cluster again to make sure it reads "Engine Maintenance Required". If that is the case, please pull codes and if you see code P268115 Engine Coolant Bypass Valve Circuit Short to Battery or Open, check the coolant bypass valve for coolant inside the connector. This code may not cause the check engine to turn on.

The Rav4, please make sure you get valve with the hose as the old hose can be a real pain to get off and may be damaged in the process. Toyota didn't use clamps for this and instead went to just press fitting the hoses onto the valve. This part number is 16260-F0010 and is both the valve with the hose attached.

The part number needed is 16671-f2010 for just the valve itself, like for the Corolla.

I would say this can be done in less than 30 mins as there are only two bolts holding it in place. If you look at your firewall to the left of the brake booster you’ll see it.

The hoses are coming out of the firewall but the valve is closer to the backside of the engine block. It looks just like the above picture.

I just had the same problem with my 2020 Toyota Corolla SE. I have 88,000 miles because I drive for Uber and Lyft. Anyways it was this same coolant bypass valve that cracked and started leaking on mine too and shorted out the part where the harness plugs in.
The dealer wanted $600 to replace it but I just bought the part for $125 and did it myself. Took about one hour not a big deal. I also spent $25 on a gallon of Toyota red coolant as well. You lose a little bit when changing it.

I had this happen to me. 2020 Camry SE 79,000 miles. Didn't even try the dealer, At first tried an independent mechanic who didn't seem to appreciate this diagnosis.l and wanted to do his own diagnostics and keep my only vehicle overnight or multiple days. So did it myself part was $58 plus shipping. It did take a little longer about 6 hours. I also got a $20 2 day subscription to TIS Toyota tech info for the actual step by step including the coolant refill and bleed procedures.

Thank you so much for this information.

I see this issue popping up all over the place - I just hit 70k on my '19 Rav4. Seems like people need to start making a stink to Toyota and get this thing put on the Recall List -

Hi All,

Thanks for Info, i have a 2019 toyota rav4 with code "P268115 Engine Coolant Bypass Valve Circuit Short to Battery or Open" but i just want to double check\confirm that 16260-F0010 is the valve with the hose attached as my local toyota dealer is telling me it is 16260F0021 and i don't want to buy the incorrect part.

Thanks!
