Introduction:
Some 2019 – 2020 model year Toyota vehicles may exhibit a groaning noise from the front seat power recliner. This condition may occur when adjusting the front seat power recliner using the adjuster switch to recline back or forward. Follow the Repair Procedure in this bulletin to address this condition.

APPLICABLE WARRANTY:
This repair is covered under the Toyota Basic Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date.
Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in this bulletin.

Repair Procedure:
1. Confirm the condition exists. Does the vehicle exhibit a groaning noise from the front seat power recliner when adjusting a front seat power recliner using the adjuster switch to recline back or forward?
YES — Continue to step 2.
NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable Repair Manual.

2. Remove the headrest from the seat exhibiting the noise.

3. Remove the front seat cushion shield from the front seat.

4. Apply grease to the reclining mechanism.
Injector, Grease Tube-- Part Number 90999-94332

A. Set the seat slide position of the front seat assembly to the frontmost position.
(1) Recline the front seat assembly to the frontmost tilt position.
(2) Align the head metal stamping mark positions of the reclining section.

B. Squeeze the grease from the tube into the injector.

C. Tap the injector several times to move the grease further into the injector

D. Set the tip and the indentation portion to approximately 1.5 ml

E. Insert the tip of the injector into the grease injection section of the reclining section and inject 0.7 to 0.8 ml of grease into the alignment area.

F. Recline the front seat assembly for a single round trip of the following to let the grease penetrate in the sliding portion:
1. Frontmost tilt position (position at application)
2. Rearmost tilt position
3. Frontmost tilt position

G. Check that the metal stamping mark positions of the reclining section are aligned.

H. Repeat sub-steps E and F to inject the remaining grease into the alignment area.

5. Use a waste cloth to wipe off ANY grease spilt from the reclining opening.

6. Confirm that the noise is no longer present. Check that there is no abnormal noise when reclining forward and backward while naturally sitting on the seat.

7. Reassemble the front seat cushion shield to the front seat assembly

8. Reinstall the headrest to the front power seat
