Applicability:
2019-2021 Toyota Avalon, Avalon Hybrid
Introduction:
Some 2019 – 2021 model year Avalon and Avalon Hybrid vehicles may exhibit a condition where the driver side and/or passenger side LED parking lights do not fully illuminate when the headlight switch and the engine are on and the vehicle is in reverse. Follow the Repair Procedure in this bulletin to address this condition.
Production Change Information:
This bulletin applies to vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown below.
All 2019 – 2020 model year Avalon and Avalon Hybrid vehicles.
2021 model year Avalon and Avalon Hybrid vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown on page 1 of T-SB-0001-21 .
APPLICABLE WARRANTY:
This repair is covered under the Toyota Basic Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date.
Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in this bulletin.
The new part numbers are 81107-07210 and 90069-32108
Repair Procedure
1. Taking ALL safety precautions, confirm the condition exists.
Do the driver side AND passenger side LED parking lights fully illuminate when the headlight switch and the engine are ON and the vehicle is in reverse?
YES — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable Repair Manual.
NO — Continue to step 2.
2. Remove BOTH headlight assemblies.
3. Perform the following action on BOTH headlight assemblies: Uninstall the Full Beam Driver (FBD) module from the headlight assembly
A. Identify the FBD module on the headlight assembly.
B. Using a standard T20 screwdriver, remove the three T20 screws from the FBD module
C. Remove the FBD module from the headlight assembly.
D. Depress the connector locking tab and pull it away from the FBD module
4. Install the NEW FBD module.
A. Confirm the FBD module seal position on the NEW FBD module.
B. Line up the FBD module with the headlight assembly mounting feature as shown.
C. Flip the FBD module over as shown. Ensure to leave enough hand space for the connector installation.
D. Plug the harness into the NEW FBD module.
E. Place the NEW FBD module into the headlight assembly
F. Install the three T20 screws to secure the FBD module to the headlight assembly.
G. The FBD module installation is complete.
5. Install BOTH headlight assemblies
6. Confirm the condition is no longer present.
