Introduction:
Some 2020 – 2021 model year Tundra vehicles equipped with a smart key (push start) may exhibit a condition in which the mechanical key located inside the key fob does not manually unlock or lock the driver side door. Follow the procedures in this bulletin to address this condition.

APPLICABLE WARRANTY:
This repair is covered under the Toyota Basic Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date. Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in this bulletin.
Inspection Procedure:
1. Confirm the condition exists. If the vehicle is equipped with a smart key (push start), check the driver side door key cylinder operation with the mechanical key located inside the key fob.
Does the vehicle exhibit a condition in which the mechanical key located inside the key fob does NOT manually unlock or lock the driver side door?
YES — Continue to step 2.
NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable Repair Manual.
2. Remove the driver side door panel.
3. Check the lock and unlock functions by looking inside the door from the door beltline area.
Is the lock rod coming out of the lock actuator as shown?
YES — Continue to step 4.
NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable Repair Manual.
4. Verify the driver side door key cylinder operation with the mechanical key located inside the key fob.
* If key rotation unlocks the door but does NOT lock the door, continue to the Repair Procedure section of this Service Bulletin to replace all three (driver side front door, glove box, and tail gate) key cylinders.
* If key rotation locks the door but does NOT unlock the door, continue to the Repair Procedure section of this Service Bulletin to replace all three (driver side front door, glove box, and tail gate) key cylinders.
* If key rotation locks AND unlocks the door, this bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable Repair Manual.
Repair Procedure:
1. Remove the driver side front door key cylinder with the lock rod.
A. Remove the hole plug.
B. Using a T30 Torx wrench, loosen the screw and remove the front door outside handle cover and the driver side front door lock key cylinder with lock rod as a unit.
C. Remove the driver side front door lock key cylinder with lock from the hole cover.
D. Pry the tabs up to remove the door handle cover.
2. Install the NEW driver side front door key cylinder with lock rod
A. Using a T30 Torx wrench, tighten the screw to install the front door outside handle cover and the driver side front door lock key cylinder as a unit.
Torque: 4.0 N*m (41 kgf*cm, 35 ft*lbf)
B. Install the hole plug.
3. Confirm the driver side front door key cylinder with lock rod functions both manually and by using the key fob.
4. Install the driver side door panel.
5. Remove the glove box key cylinder.
A. Open the glove box
B. Tilt the glove box handle and look for a gold tab.
C. Push in on the gold tab to release the glove box key cylinder.
D. Push the glove box key cylinder out from the back side.
6. Install the NEW glove box key cylinder.
A. Align the gold tab down and push the glove box key cylinder inside the glove box handle.
B. Confirm the glove box key cylinder is seated and functions properly.
7. Replace the tail gate key cylinder
A. Remove the tail gate service hole cover by removing the eight screws.
B. Remove the clip holding the tail gate key cylinder.
8. Install the NEW tail gate key cylinder.
A. Align the tabs and drop in the NEW tail gate key cylinder.
B. Ensure the key cylinder loop rests on the locking tab
C. Replace the clip.
D. Reinstall the tail gate service hole cover by installing the eight screws.
E. Confirm proper tail gate key cylinder function.

C. Replace the clip.

E. Confirm proper tail gate key cylinder function.
