Backup Lamps May Become Inoperative

On April 08, 2020, Toyota filed a Defect Information Report (DIR) with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) informing the agency of our intent to conduct a voluntary Safety Recall on 2020 model year Corolla Hatchback vehicles.

Condition:
A connector in the rear hatch of the subject vehicles may have been damaged during production. As a result, the backup lamps may become inoperative over time. If backup lamps do not illuminate when the vehicle is operated in reverse, there can be an increased risk of a crash.

Remedy:
Any authorized Toyota dealer will replace the rear hatch wire harness with a new one FREE OF CHARGE to customers.

Covered Vehicles:
There are approximately 1,000 vehicles covered by this Safety Recall. No vehicles covered by this Safety Recall were distributed to Puerto Rico

Owner Letter Mailing Date:
Toyota will notify owners by late June 2020.

The repair takes approximately 1 hour. However, depending upon the dealer’s work schedule, it may be necessary to make the vehicle available for a longer period of time.
