Thanks very much for the information. I saved me a lot of time (and painters tape) trying to pinpoint the source of that whistling noise. I applied the tape this morning and the whistling is now gone. I have my first service scheduled soon for my 2021 XLE and can have the dealer get the seal ordered.
Just an update after my service appointment. The dealership's tech couldn't hear the whistle and therefore it doesn't exist, even though I've dealt with it for over 6 months- and my testing with painters tape resolved the problem. The service writer wouldn't even look at my phone when I pulled up this forum. I fixed it myself using 3/8" weather stripping attached to the inward base of the seal, then secured it with Gorilla Tape (similar Flex Seal) This added back support to the factory hood seal. Anyone who resorts to adding insulation to the seal should consider that it may come loose and land on a hot engine component, or get wrapped into the cooling fan and cause bigger problems.

I'm taking my highlander to the dealership next week so hopefully this can be resolved. Thanks! I'll do a follow up once it's solved.

Has anyone been able to figure out what change was made on the gasket/seal? I am good with purchasing a new one to get this issue resolved, I just want to make sure it is the "new" one if there is a new one . . . .

The seal has been redesigned and this condition should be covered under your 3 year/36,000 mile warranty.

Brought my 2021 Highlander limited in last week and my dealer could not hear the noise either. Fortunately, you could visibly see the seal is not flush and they are installing a new one on Monday. Tons of fun

After no response other than "we don't hear it" from my dealership, I contacted corporate. Man did I light a fire. The same day my highlander was tape tested and hood seal ordered. I hate I had to go that route but the deaf service foreman isn't the one driving my car daily. Maybe now that corporate is involved others will easily get their issue resolved as well.

My new 2022 XLE had this issue when drivng off the lot. Dealer ordered new hood seal, which is currently back ordered. Very grateful I found this post. Putting a roughly 18" piece of painters tape on the middle of the hood seal stopped the nouse.

Thanks so much for this!!! The noise was driving my wife crazy. The Cedar Park, TX dealership came up with BS excuses, like it's the rack that makes noise and that I should pay them $400 to get it removed. I mentioned this forum and I insisted that they replace the hood seal. No noise anymore!!!

I would like to update that corporate contacted me again today. They are going to contact me daily until the part is replaced and the issue is resolved. Also there is an official ticket issued for all of the future toyota customers so that this can be resolved.(Told them about this forum). They said it may come as a recall or as a service update. I have to say the dealership was not helpful but corporate will get things done. They even three wayed the dealership and basically told them to fix it....period! Don't hesitate to take this route if you need to. I'm scheduled to have the hood seal replaced at the end of this week.

Just purchased a 2022 XLE. Right out of dealer it started to whistle. It starts anytime over 30mph. Gets louder with increase in speed. It's going in tomorrow for service. Hopefully it will be fixed properly. Only have 94 miles on it!

Hood seal finally replaced today! Noise is gone!!
Glad to hear that! I emailed the corporate today as well! Because the dealership said it’s my hearing problem, I’m very disappointed about this dealership’s service this time.

If you have a 2021 Toyota Highlander with a whistle noise starting around 45mph, then you may want to replace the hood seal. Allegedly there us a new design but will still have the old part number. You can tape off the hood to see if the noise goes away for confirmation.

After 8 visits to the dealership, the seal wasn't the issue. There's a recall now and new brackets are to be installed. Waste of money and time considering how long this has been an issue. For a brand new car, 6+ months with a whistle is unacceptable.
