2021 Toyota Sienna Looks Wild and Comes Only as a Hybrid

Toyota is taking some big risks with the new 2021 Sienna minivan. First and foremost is the van's bold new styling, which makes the redesigned Sienna possibly the wildest-looking minivan since the 2004 Nissan Quest. And second is the fact that Toyota will offer this new model exclusively with a four-cylinder hybrid powertrain, breaking tradition from the previous generations of the Sienna that were all powered by naturally aspirated V-6 engines.

Every 2021 Sienna will have a 2.5-liter gasoline engine paired with two electric motors to produce a total of 243 horsepower. That's a drop of 53 horsepower compared with the outgoing Sienna's 3.5-liter V-6, but the tradeoff is an estimated combined EPA fuel economy rating of up to 33 mpg—a significant 12-mpg improvement.
