Jake from Toyota ... thanks for the information. However I have now spoken to Toyota Headquarters a couple of times and about 7 local dealers in the southern California area, and NO ONE is aware of this problem. Toyota has no service bulletins or recall notifications on this issue. I also would like official information like PaulNY is asking for, before I put down $70,000 on a new Tundra. And start traveling cross country pulling my Airstream trailer. Do you have any recommendations that folks like us can get an official statement regarding a manufacturing time period or VIN number range that is affected by this problem? That would be greatly appreciated.

They also issued a tsb on this problem because dealer mechanics are bending the connector rods in attempt to fix this issue. That’s what my buddy said they did to his new tundra.

I have always heard that you never buy a new model vehicle the first year they come out. I did when the audi q5 came out and regretted it. I would what till years 3 and up giving toyota time to work out all the bugs.

Can you please be more specific...meaning, after what date or vin# can we expect the new parts were implemented at the factory? Do you have a Vin# range of what 500-1000 have the issue? My truck was built on 1/26 and is due to be delivered 2/15-2/21. Last 8: NX010137. Thank you for any further insight you can provide.

Back when Toyota's were MADE IN JAPAN we didnt have these problems. Thats why the 4Runner is flawless. Now ALL gear hunting Tacoma's are made in Mexico. Think i will stick with my 5.7

I work at a Toyota engine plant and I personally build and install these turbos and the problem is some of the parts that came to our factory were defective and we didn’t catch it until it we had already sent out a few engines, but the problem has been fixed and will not be a problem in the future. Only about 500-1000 might have the issue but now not at all
I recently ordered 2022 Tundra twin turbocharged. I haven’t received the truck yet but it should arrive in a few weeks. Is the waste gate issue still a problem ?

Yes it is but I'm sure that they will get a handle on this issue. I agree with fotza above, I've heard that you never buy a new model vehicle until they've been out for 2-3 years. Look at all the issues/recalls on the 2016 & up Tacoma.

Not mine. I have a 2022 Tundra 1794 edition 4x4 Crewmax purchased on 2-16-2022. The issue should not have happen to me, but it did a couple days later. On the 19th of February my truck has the turbo wastegate problem and parts were ordered. My truck still sits at my dealership. As of today the 30th of March it is 40 days. Waiting for one more part a turbo gasket. The ETA becomes another ETA and so on. Pretty soon will be 2 months and not fixed yet.

Yes, this issue is still occurring. My vehicle up in Canada had the first notification that the brake system failure and engine light appeared. After a few back and forth visits to the dealer, it was then determined that it is the wastegate issue. I have it in the shop ETA for new parts is currently 2 weeks, so it puts this entire case at close to 1.5months for it to be fixed.

The problem is much more widespread then a few engines and it's still happening a year model later

not sure problems has been resolved like you said, mayby in sort time but.... just bring my 2022 TRD Pro whit 67K because engine is in protect mode and dealer told me my truck have a wasgate issue.

My 2022 Tundra went in the shop at 16,148 miles on 7/8/2024. Generated a trouble code for a waste-gate stuck closed. P25B673, P25B6 Ten days later and I'm still waiting to get it back.

Trabajo en una planta de motores Toyota y yo mismo construyo e instalo estos turbos. El problema es que algunas de las piezas que llegaron a nuestra fábrica estaban defectuosas y no nos dimos cuenta hasta que ya habíamos enviado algunos motores, pero el problema se ha solucionado y no volverá a ser un problema en el futuro. Es posible que solo entre 500 y 1000 tengan el problema, pero ahora no lo tienen en absoluto.
¿Cuál es el problema????
