Some 2014-2015 Toyota Camry, Camry Hybrid and Corolla vehicles may exhibit a partially inoperative radio touch screen (usually the lower right hand side) on vehicle with the base audio option. Updated head units (radio) are available through your Toyota Dealer. Please see Technical Service Bulletin 0172-16

This repair is covered under the Toyota basic warranty which is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles.

I am just over the 36 month warranty, would this problem be covered under my extended warranty? I am told the diagnostic test to check will cost $138.00 and this is only to check if the problem is covered under my extended warranty.

That would depend on what extended warranty you have. Some have names like the "Silver"plan that may not cover it while a "Platinum" plan will. Please take the time to read your contract and see. As for the $138 charge to check and see if the radio faceplate is not working when you touch it, that seems a bit excessive. Have you talked with your Dealers Service Director about this yet?

I got a new phone, tried to pair it to my car, the add button doesn't work because the touch doesn't work on the lower part of the screen. I am at 38300miles. WTH. Took it to my local Toyota, and they said,"the warranty is the warranty". I was like WTH. They said they will call Toyota HQ and ask for a good faith repair. So we'll see in an hr. I can't believe it's a known issue, and they didn't do a recall etc. If they are not willing to cover the repair, I will go to Twitter, social media about this.

What ended up happening?

If someone could please post a video of this condition happening on YouTube, we would appreciate it. This would let other owners see what is happening. Thanks

below is a video I shot showing the partial functionality. Very frustrating since this is a known issue but it did not show up until 45k miles for me and I do not have an extended warranty. Dealer quoted me $1,100 to repair. I may just try it myself, I've swapped radios myself before.

Does anyone know if there is any computer or re-calibration stuff regarding replacing the radio? The touch screen interfaces with many of the cars programmable settings (daytime running lights, unlock doors on park, etc) so I'm afraid it could be a little more complicated than popping a new radio/head unit it and reconnecting wires.

Video showing issue.

Detailed video showing how to remove radio (not mine)

Thank you for helping out the Forum and every Toyota owner that has experienced this condition.

Yep 2014 se 60k miles, the bottom right section where the sound button is works about 50% of the time now. Extremely frustrating, espsecially since it appears to be a widespread issue

2014 Camry and mine stopped working as well. Bought new iPhone 7 and tried to pair, unable to add because of dead key at bottom of screen. There's no way I'm paying $1000 to replace. Why hasn't this been recalled? How can those of us affected start a class action suit if it's a known issue and Toyota is complacent?

I had the same issue with the touchscreen on my 2014 Camry. My diagnostic cost $60 for "labor" at the dealership so they could tell me what I already knew - that it wouldn't work and would cost $975 to get a new one. I was over the mileage in warranty by 20,000 miles. I can't believe they won't replace these parts since it is an obvious problem of poor quality.

Ageeed! Maybe Toyota will offer a warranty extension on these model/years for this condition.

I have a 2014 Corolla and I'm having the same issue. I was able to connect my old phone to Bluetooth, but I have a new phone now. I'm unable to remove the old one and add the new phone. The add or remove buttons doesn't work.

Just had this happen to us earlier last month and was about to visit Best Buy for a new audio unit, is Toyota going to fix these under a recall. I thought I read that somewhere...

I've been a Toyota customer for over 20 years now and my family has been Toyota customers from when I was little. The reason is that Toyota vehicles have never failed them as well as their warranties and custome care. I started off owning a Corolla and then went to a Camry and am currently on my second Camry. Never had an issue with any of my other Toyota's and now my 2014 Camry is having Bluetooth touch screen problems...seems like it's not calibrated properly but after reading this thread I see it's a consistent issue and should have been recalled!!! I know it's not immediate safety hazard but for a person that drives around in the car and relies on the Bluetooth operating correctly for work this becomes a major issue for me!! My husband is a Honda man and he insists I get rid of my Camry and upgrade to Honda...I am in the store for upgrading but would want to keep my current car for my sons as they are coming into driving age...however it's a major safety concern for the Bluetooth not working!! I'm really distraught as I don't want to give up my trust in Toyota after all the years growing up in the safety and confort...but if they aren't willing to make amends to this situation and fix it as it's a consistent problem across the board and not call a recall then I'm going to have to do what's best for my family!
With heavy heart!

Hey guys try this. Take your fingernail and press at the very bottom of the sound button making your nail go under the trim piece like you are going to pull it off but just press with your nail. I made a video here...
